Politics & Laws

Much has been expressed here regarding the rules, politics, and ethics of our game.  Perhaps we should do what I implore our Congress to do…  for every new rule or law, cite the specific authority.  In the case of the US, Congress MUST cite the constitutional provision (NOT THE PREAMBLE) for every law it proposes.

Hi Chris,

A wonderful suggestion which needs to have one important question answered!

What will serve as our Bridge Constitution?

I have made many references to what I think our bridge forefathers, Vanderbilt, Culbertson, Goren, Von Zedtwitz, Hazen and I suppose others, might have wanted us to do and that, of course, is what Grantland Rice referred to in his famous quote, (loosely) “When the great scorer comes to mark beside your name, it is not whether you won or lost, but how you played the game.” or what Rudyard Kipling made famous in his poem “If”, (also loosely), but quoted in Wimbledons locker room, “One must learn to win or lose, but treat those two imposters just the same”.

Now substitute those bridge names for Jefferson, Hamilton, Hancock and many others and we might define in 2009 what our Bridge Constitution should have contained through the last 82 years. Power to the Actively Ethical People!!!!!!!
